Ahmad Ishaque Jehangir, Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), visited the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, to engage with OICCI members and discuss issues concerning the FIA.

During the meeting, OICCI CE/Secretary General M. Abdul Aleem provided an overview of OICCI, which represents 211 members from 31 countries and contributes significantly to Pakistan’s tax revenue and foreign direct investment (FDI). He highlighted that over the past decade, OICCI members have reinvested $23 billion in Pakistan. He also shared members’ concerns related to IPR enforcement, FIA’s jurisdiction, and challenges in cybercrime law enforcement, noting that Pakistan loses approximately 800 billion rupees annually due to inadequate IPR protection.

In response, Ahmad Ishaque Jehangir proposed forming a joint working group to address legislative changes and enhance IPR enforcement. He also appointed a focal contact within the FIA to expedite inquiries from OICCI members. The discussions included sector-specific challenges, such as the counterfeiting of medicines, with the DG assuring FIA’s full cooperation and emphasizing the need for strengthened collaboration with OICCI to address these issues effectively.

The session concluded with a shared commitment to foster greater cooperation between the FIA and OICCI, aiming for more effective resolution of challenges faced by foreign investors in Pakistan.
