Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands, Ms Ardi Stoios-Braken Visits the OICCI

The new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands, Ms Ardi Stoios-Braken, accompanied by Ms Winnie van der Wal, First Secretary of Economic Affairs and Tarik Khan, Honorary Consul General, Karachi, visited the OICCI on October 5, 2017, for a courtesy call and to learn about the OICCI perspective of the business environment in the country. The visitors were welcomed by OICCI Secretary General M. Abdul Aleem.

After a brief introduction about the OICCI profile and activities of the Chamber, M. Abdul Aleem shared an overview of the result of the OICCI sponsored Business Confidence Index survey, wave 14, released to the media in May 2017, some key information from the OICCI members Perception and Investment Survey 2015, OICCI Members Security related survey done in June 2017 – which shows further increase of members positive perception of the country’s security environment, snapshot of OICCI listed members success story reflected in the very good CAGR during the period 2009-16, an overview of the OICCI perspective of the country’s economy and opportunities for foreign investors in Pakistan. He also pointed out a few challenges and reasons for the low FDI inflow in recent years. M. Abdul Aleem also mentioned that the environment for business in Pakistan is a lot better than the general perception, and this is observed by all those foreigners who come to the country and that there is now increased travel to Pakistan by Regional and Corporate executives of member companies and others.

The SG also informed the Ambassador about the role played by the previous First Secretary of Economic Affairs in arranging a get together of Economic Counsellors from EU/Other countries and OICCI for an exchange of economic and business related information and requested First Secretary Ms Winnie van der Wal to look into arranging something similar next year. He also requested for a more flexible longer term visa regime for genuine business travelers as well as tourists.

Ambassador Ms Ardi Stoios-Braken William Laitinen thanked the OICCI for the informative presentation and informed that her work priority is to further cement the friendly relations between the Netherlands and Pakistan and to enhance the trade and investment relations between the two countries. She also expressed her support for the Dutch Embassy coordinating the get together of Economic Counsellors and OICCI MC members.

Both teams agreed to continue close coordination between the Dutch Diplomatic mission and OICCI to promote Pakistan and Netherlands Trade, business and Investment.
