Air Marshal Ahmer Shahzad Legahri Chairman Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), Kamra visited the OICCI on February 08, 2018 for an interactive session with the OICCI members. He was welcomed by the CE/Secretary General M. Abdul Aleem, who commenced the session by familiarizing Air Marshal with the OICCI history and its contribution to the national economy.

Air Marshal Legahri asserted that Pakistan must become technologically relevant, establish a self-reliant industrial base and develop human resource equipped with 21st century skills. He said this is critical in order to remain competitive in the current world environment, especially to combat the threats posed by some neighboring countries, whose annual spending on defence budget is several times more than Pakistan.

The Air Marshal briefed the audience about PAC Kamra, focusing on the venture of Aviation City. He talked about the value to be created with high quality feat of engineering skills and managerial talent deployed in building the Aeronautical Complex. He informed the audience about the four factories at the complex, each one of which is dedicated to developing high-tech air craft. This has enabled Pakistan to become one of the six countries to make fighter planes. He also spoke about the three fundamental components of the Aviation City, including industrial cluster, academia and research and development (R&D).

The AM shared his vision on how the Aviation City could be established under public-private partnership. He added that the private sector’s involvement could increase the considerably low utilization rate of the equipment in Pakistan’s aviation industry. He further urged the private sector to rise above the typical business and realize the opportunities that come with the development of the Aviation City and to show involvement in at least the R&D, as the human capital trained in this area would be an invaluable asset to these companies. Throughout the session, Air Marshal emphasized the value of this project and the support extended by the Government of Pakistan in its completion.

The meeting ended with an interactive and thought-provoking question and answer session with Air Marshal Legahri, which was highly appreciated by the members present.
