Ms Winnie van der Wal, First Secretary/Economic Affairs of Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Pakistan visits the OICCI


Ms Winnie van der Wal, First Secretary/Economic Affairs of Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Pakistan visited the OICCI on August 2, 2017, for a courtesy call and to learn about the views of OICCI members on the current business environment in the country. She was welcomed by OICCI Secretary General M. Abdul Aleem.

She informed M. Abdul Aleem about plans to promote the growth of Pakistan and Netherlands trade and business relations and in this respect the Pakistani Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping and some senior officials of other ministries will be invited to Netherlands shortly to give them an overview of the port facilities in Rotterdam and other ports for possible collaboration projects to upgrade Pakistan ports and to introduce agriculture based Dutch companies which are considered highly productive and can offer their counterparts in Pakistan useful technology.

Earlier M. Abdul Aleem shared an overview of the OICCI profile, including results of the OICCI sponsored Business Confidence Index (BCI) survey, wave 14, released in May, 2017, a slide showing the comparison of Pakistan as an investment destination vis a vis some regional countries from the OICCI members Perception and Investment Survey 2015, OICCI Members Security related survey done in June 2017 – which shows a further increase of members positive perception of the country’s security environment, snapshot of OICCI Publicly listed members success story reflected in the very good CAGR during the period 2009-16, CSR initiatives of members which annually benefit over 20 million people, an overview of the OICCI perspective of the country’s economy. He also pointed out a few challenges and reasons for the low FDI inflow in recent years. M. Abdul Aleem also mentioned that there are lots of opportunities for foreign investors and a few years ago McKinsey & Company, the Global management consulting firm had carried out a research which mentions high potential for investment in Horticulture, Pharmaceuticals and Food sector in Pakistan

In her concluding remarks, Ms Winnie van der Wal thanked the OICCI for the informative presentation and both teams agreed to maintain close coordination to promote trade and Investment between Pakistan and Netherlands.
