IPR Session titled “IPR Enforcement- Protecting what is yours” at Sukkur IBA

The Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) arranged an IPR Session on February 9, 2017 titled “IPR Enforcement; Protecting what is yours”, at Sukkur IBA. The session was conducted by Shaharyar Nashat, Country Counsel Citibank Pakistan. Various aspects of Trademarks, Copyrights,  Trade Secrets, Patents and Geographical Indications were discussed at length during this highly engaging session. Sukkur IBA students very ardently participated in the session and raised some pertinent questions, which were comprehensively answered by the learned speaker.

The Chamber and its members over the years, have been at the forefront of raising the consciousness of IPR at various forums, and its important role in attracting foreign investment to the country, as our members have an enormous stake in the protection of their intellectual property in the form of trademarks, patents and copyrights. The IPR enforced environment helps in attracting FDI as protection of IPRs is one of the major concerns of foreign investors. Realising the implications of IPR for business in Pakistan, OICCI has taken the initiative to spread awareness of IPR matters, its impact on the economy along with innovation and the role different stakeholders, including business leaders, can play in effectively addressing the issue.
