H.E Jean-François Cautain, European Union Ambassador to Pakistan, accompanied by Husnain A. Iftakhar, Senior Economist/Trade Officer, visited OICCI on January 16, 2017. They were welcomed by CE/Secretary General M. Abdul Aleem and Managing Committee Members Helmut Von Struve, Kimihide Ando and Marek Andrzej Minkiewicz.
The Secretary General briefed the Ambassador about the OICCI profile, recent research activities of the Chamber, the improved security environment and success stories of OICCI members. He also highlighted the vast opportunities that exist for foreign investors in Pakistan. The MC members also gave some suggestions to the Ambassador on how he could give support in attracting FDI from the EU, including a suggestion for a visit by journalists from leading EU media houses to visit Pakistan and get a more balanced view of the country, which could help in improving the image of Pakistan with potential investors.
The Ambassador informed that the EU had adopted a 5-year Engagement Plan in 2012, which has broadened and deepened the relationship between the European Union and Pakistan. He also talked about the various initiatives that have been taken by the European Union to help in the economic development of Pakistan. Several options were discussed as to how the EU Delegation and OICCI can jointly promote trade between EU countries and Pakistan in the region.
