Kimihide Ando San, Past President OICCI and Honorary Investment Counsellor – Japan, visited the OICCI on May 4, 2023, along with Wakako Sakurai San, Founder and CEO – +W, Takashi Horiuchi San, Executive Vice President and COO – +W, and Umair Munir, Deputy Head – Islamabad Office to gain an understanding of OICCI’s position on investment and business conditions in Pakistan and to discuss possible potential avenues of joint ventures and collaborations. M. Abdul Aleem – CE/Secretary General and Kashif Shafi – Executive Director welcomed the guests. Abdul Aleem shared a detailed presentation which included OICCI’s brief profile and introduction of the current management committee of OICCI, a snapshot of the members contribution to the economy, the role of the Chamber in facilitating FDI in the country, and research studies done by the chamber. Discussing the current economic challenges, the delegate was briefed about the results of OICCI’s latest surveys which highlighted our members’ issues and commitments while navigating through the current crisis, along with the advocacy efforts undertaken by the Chamber with the government. Ando San and Wakako San appreciated the efforts undertaken by the Chamber to align Pakistan’s positive image to the outside world. Discussing possible avenues of collaboration, Wakako San briefed OICCI about her organization +W, which aimed to revolutionize human resource availability through digitalization. The aim is to reduce the labor demand-supply mismatch which increases unemployment through providing skill workshops and trainings on the jobs available in the market. Ando San thanked OICCI for their time and appreciated OICCI’s efforts in sharing a holistic and objective view of the business environment in Pakistan. He shared that given Pakistan’s burgeoning youth population providing employment opportunities in the digital sector would help Pakistan in competing with regional peers.
